FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

  • We do! So far we’ve had projects in Lac du Bonnet, Cooks Creek, and East St. Paul. We also work with clients located in different provinces as we can complete the majority of our work remotely. We’re always looking for unique projects, whether they’re in Winnipeg, or not!

  • The earlier the better! The planning process is the most important part of your renovation so we put time and care into it, ultimately making the construction part of your renovation go smoothly.

The length of the design process depends on the scope of your project and how quickly you can make decisions. Here are some typical timelines:

    Kitchen/Bathroom - 3-6 months

Whole Floor (Main Floor/Basement/Second Floor) - 6-12 months

    Whole Home - 12+ months

  • We provide a flat fee proposal based on your specific project. We divide the payments equally and invoice at the beginning of each month. Our proposal outlines the scope of our agreement and the terms and conditions of working with us.

  • It’s easy! Fill out our contact form to begin and we’ll be in touch with more info!

  • Construction drawings are the foundation of a successful renovation or new build and are essentially the instruction booklet that guides the process from start to finish. An excellent set of drawings allows the designer to communicate the design intent, concept, ideas, details, and specifications needed to make the project a reality.

  • It can be more expensive NOT to work with an interior designer as we can help you avoid costly mistakes, streamline the process, and use your time and budget effectively.

  • We're committed to providing each of our clients with the exceptional attention and dedication they deserve. To ensure this, we intentionally limit the number of projects we take on at one time. Quality and a great experience are our top priorities, so we avoid overloading ourselves.

Typically, once you sign on with us, we’ll be able to begin your project within three months. When we first meet to discuss your project, we'll provide you with an overview of our timelines and where your project fits in, ensuring that your expectations are met while allowing us to give your project the care and attention it deserves.

  • When it comes to pricing, several factors are at play:

Designer's Education: The level of education a designer has can influence their pricing. More extensively educated designers might charge higher fees due to their advanced knowledge and skills.

Designer's Experience: Experience matters. Designers with a proven track record and years of practice might command a higher price, reflecting their expertise.

Demand for Their Unique Perspective: Designers with a unique and sought-after design perspective may charge a premium for their in-demand services.

On the flip side, new designers who are just starting in the industry may offer services at a lower fee to build their portfolio and gain experience. As designers accumulate education, experience, certifications, and gain recognition, their pricing tends to reflect their growing expertise and demand in the field.

  • You need to be involved in the process, however we’re flexible and can accommodate your level of involvement. We're happy to take the lead, but we won't make any significant decisions without your approval at key points in the process.

  • Nope! We work on any size or layout of home.

We called our company Bungalow because we love the simplicity of mid-century modern, West coast modern, and contemporary design, which are often reflected in bungalows. We also love bungalows as they facilitate aging in place, have excellent craftsmanship, and are a nod to an age when materials were quality and long-lasting.

  • Have you ever heard the expression, “If you fail to plan, you plan to fail”? Planning will be the most important aspect of your successful project, and good planning takes time. When you plan effectively with professional guidance, you will:

    1. Maximize your budget and avoid costly mistakes
    2. Ease stress and frustration
    3. Secure the right materials for your project
    4. Access the best construction team
    5. Adhere to building codes

When you set aside 3-12+ months (depending on your project size) to plan before construction kicks off, you won’t feel rushed to make important or on the spot decisions.

  • Our design process is all about you, from start to finish. It's a collaborative journey where we dive into detailed conversations and research to truly understand your style, preferences, and personality. We take this information to heart when designing for you because that’s the point - we’re designing for YOU.

We work closely with you to ensure you love every aspect of the design, with ample opportunity for your input and adjustment. Your satisfaction is always our top priority.

  • Your kitchen is more than just a standalone space; it's intricately connected to the rest of your home. Even if your home isn't open concept, the surrounding areas play a crucial role in the overall design. As interior designers, we bring a level of expertise and education that goes beyond kitchen design. We consider the complete picture, ensuring your new kitchen not only fits seamlessly into your current home but that your home also harmoniously integrates with your new kitchen.

  • Architects typically work on the building envelope, or the structure, while interior designers typically work on the interior of the building. While interior designers can build up to three stories high without an architect, it’s always a good idea to have both on your team when building a custom home to make sure all of the details are considered and accounted for.

  • Absolutely. We can design in many different styles. When you’re not sure what you DO want, we focus on determining the things your DON’T want. This helps us narrow down the things that you like so that we can put together a design plan that you love.

  • Our personal design styles are clean, simple lines and often resemble mid-century modern, Scandinavian modern, West coast modern, or contemporary design styles. People seek us out for these styles because we’re very good at them.

That being said, we LOVE working in all different styles. We always consider your personal style, the age and aesthetic of the home, and the functional needs when putting together a design plan.

Most importantly, we specialize in residential interiors that reflect YOU.

  • Choosing the right designer is essential for a successful project. You want to choose someone that you have a rapport with, someone that you enjoy spending time with, and someone you feel understands you and what you want to achieve.

We’re not pushy. We’re never going to insist on a particular design element or material just because we think that’s what’s best. We’ll educate you on why we’ve made certain decisions, but ultimately all of the decisions are yours to make. Our focus is YOU, your home, and your overall happiness.

  • We actually have a great journal entry on this exact subject! Give it a read here.

“They are very knowledgable and experienced when it comes to all sizes of residential interior design project scopes.”

CONSTRUCTION

  • For the most part, yes, we use the same contractors and trades for every job. You don’t have to use our preferred team but we highly recommend it. We’ve built strong relationships with contractors, architects, and tradespeople and they know our high expectations for craftsmanship and communication. We know we can rely on them if something goes wrong, and that they’ll support both us and our clients during the renovation process.

That being said, we always like being introduced to new trades, especially those with specialty skills or trades that we don’t already have on our team.

  • A designer. You need a plan before you price and build it. The contractor needs to know what you want (aka a plan) before they can provide you with any value. We like to work in tandem with contractors and trades, bringing them on early in the project so that we can consult with them about feasibility, budgeting, communication, and ensure that we’ll work well together. By hiring us first we can set you up with a build team that’s suited to your specific project, ensuring it’s built to your exact specifications.

  • Absolutely, we've got it covered. Depending on the scale of your project, we can either handle the general contracting in-house or collaborate with a trusted general contractor. If we go with the latter option, rest assured that we're still right by your side throughout the entire process. We'll be there to oversee the design vision, ensuring that every aspect aligns with our discussions and your wishes, all while serving as your dedicated advocates.

  • Hiring an independent designer like us can provide you with a distinctive advantage. While your contractor may offer design services, it's crucial to consider the depth of education and experience their designers bring to the table. Our team is not only well-educated and experienced but also dedicated to creating a design that's uniquely tailored to you and your home.

Think about the results you desire. Are you looking for a project that stands out, customized to your exact preferences and the characteristics of your space, or would you prefer a design that may adhere to a contractor's established norms? With us, your project is not bound by a particular way of doing things. We embrace your specific requests and materials, and if something falls outside our expertise, we have the network and flexibility to make it happen.

Ultimately, it's not just a choice between design services but a choice between a design that's entirely yours and one that follows a set pattern. Your home is a reflection of your uniqueness, and we're here to ensure it stays that way.

“They presented a gorgeous array of harmonious shapes and textures in materials we would have never been able to access at the likes of Home Depot. They also presented materials we might not have ourselves even considered.”

- M

“This plan was invaluable for our contractor and trades during the construction and finishing stages. Their careful plans and attention to the details resulted in the renovation going smoothly and the end result was beyond what we envisioned.”

- Carla

“At first I thought I’d be nervous entrusting someone else to do what I’ve always done myself, but it became immediately apparent that Bungalow Interior Design had all the necessary contacts and experience to ensure the project rolled along smoothly. I greatly appreciate their attention to detail, and I can’t overstate how reassuring it was to have them mediate any questions or concerns as they arose.”
